Description:
The adventure starts at 8:00 am when we depart downtown Durango via van and take a scenic drive to the authentic mining town of Silverton, Colorado, nestled deep in the San Juan Mountains.
Upon arrival in Silverton, we transfer to open Jeeps or Humvees to visit Ghost Towns and abandoned Gold and Silver Mines at an altitude of 13,000 feet, where we provide a light snack overlooking the scenic Silverton area. We then return to Silverton for shopping, sightseeing and a lunch break, where this friendly community shares its warm smiles and Southwestern greetings.
At 2:45 pm, we embark on a meandering journey aboard the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNGRR), one of the most breathtaking locomotive engines ever to traverse the West. You will relive history with the sights and sounds of yesteryear on this 1882 adventure. The coal-fired, steam-operated locomotives are maintained in their original 1923-1925 vintage condition.
To top off your day, take time to enjoy the Railroad Museum, located in the rail yard roundhouse featuring full-size locomotives, maps, photos, artwork, memorabilia, and authentic collectibles.
With plenty of daylight, novice as well as professional photographers, can capture the scenic beauty of the Weminuche Wilderness Area.
Note: Train tickets for children under 5 are free if seated on an adult's lap. If a seat is required, you must purchase a child's ticket.
Package not available over the Labor Day Weekend.
