Piedra Lower Box Trip 1 of 1 - 9:00am Departure from Piedra River Store
A real Colorado gem, the Lower Box of the Piedra (12 miles) starts with a bang! With less than a mile to warm up the rapids begin as soon as you enter the Box Canyon. Big Drop, Wall Slammer, Son of Mud, Mud Slide and Meat Grinder are separated by short pools. After lunch the action relaxes and we can enjoy the intimacy of this smaller stream surrounded by towering ponderosa trees filled with deer, bear, lynx and mountain lions. This small volume free flowing river has a short season and sees few visitors, definitely one for the books! $179/person Age 14 and up. Wetsuits are required. $25/day Rental includes wetsuit, booties and splash jacket.
Piedra Marathon Trip 1 of 1 - 8:00am Departure from Piedra River Store
When the water is high and the crew is strong (we are very selective for this trip) the appropriate crew can run both Boxes (22 miles) in one long challenging, full on day. Prior experience is required so that we know that you know what you are getting into. $249/person Age 16 and up. Wetsuits are required. $25/day Rental includes wetsuit, booties and splash jacket.
Piedra Upper Box Trip 1 of 1 - 9:00am Departure from Piedra River Store
Outstanding scenery and lively action. The prettiest stretch (10 miles) of the Piedra is up here near the mountains with its meandering continuous class II flow through natural park lands and aspen/fir forest. After lunch is when we enter the Upper Box Canyon and it's two defining rapids, Lone Pine and Limestone. A great full day adventure for families who want more than the Lower Animas can provide. $139/person Age 12 and up. Wetsuits are required. $25/day Rental includes wetsuit, booties and splash jacket.
Rockwood Gorge One Day Upper Animas Trip
Rockwood Gorge 1 day Upper Animas (Class IV & V July & August) In late summer at lower water levels we offer a trip through the Rockwood Gorge which lies 400 feet below the "High Line" section of the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. We will ride the train into the Upper Animas Canyon where we will start the trip with paddle rafts. The tension rises as you pass the Tacoma Power Plant where most raft trips end. Once you pass under the railroad bridge there is no turning back as you challenge Rockwood's first rapid, Mandatory Thrashing. Fortunately the river is not continuous whitewater like above, but pull drop in nature giving each raft a chance to regroup. At one point the river is less than 15′ wide and has over a dozen rapids which would be named on a lesser run. At the take out above the impassible gorge we will hike out a half mile and up over 400 feet, with all of our gear, rafts included. Needless to say, y'all best be in good shape for this one. If you've already done the tourist thing on other rivers, step up to the Rockwood Gorge for a one of a kind thrill! $249/person includes train fare and lunch. Three Day Upper Animas Trip
3 Day Upper Animas (Class IV & V May & June) (Class III & IV at lower water July & August) This trip covers all 24 miles of the Upper Animas just like the 2 day with an additional day to layover in Camp Needleton, a beautiful and remote section of the Weminuche Wilderness. This extra day allows you time to hike, explore, fish or just relax in the largest wilderness area in Colorado. $619/person includes train fare and lots of food! Required Orientation: Water level determines the Class of the Upper Animas. Class IV & V minimum age is 16. Class III & IV minimum age is 14. Orientation includes a 15 minute raft trip to determine clients physical ability and performance of self-rescue swim. Wetsuits are required. $25/day Rental includes wetsuit, booties and splash jacket.
Two Day Upper Animas Trip
2 Day Upper Animas (Class IV & V May & June) (Class III & IV at lower water July & August) This trip is the whole 24 mile enchilada! World Class stunning rapids on day 1 include Ten Mile and No Name Rapids with a continuous stretch of whitewater dropping at over 120′ per mile before we stop for the night at the half way point in Camp Needleton. Our deluxe river camp has all the amenities and gives you access to the Weminuche Wilderness through Chicago Basin. Hike, fish or just relax while the guides impress you with their culinary skill and their tales around the camp fire. After a hearty breakfast in the morning you will continue down the river running Broken Bridge Rapid and catching the train for the ride home. World Class and beyond compare! Later in the summer this same trip can be run at lower water levels which bring its rating down to Class III & IV. $479/person and includes train fare, 2 lunches, dinner and breakfast. Required Orientation: Water level determines the Class of the Upper Animas. Class IV & V minimum age is 16. Class III & IV minimum age is 14. This classic trip includes a shuttle on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad into the heart of the largest wilderness area in the state of Colorado, the Weminuche. The incredibly challenging rapids with very continuous stretches make this one of the premier trips in the U.S. The one day trip gets you down half of the Upper Animas, the two day gets you all 24 miles. When the water levels drop later in the summer, the very difficult class V Upper Animas rapids become more like technical class III & IV rapids. Outstanding, challenging, breathtaking, the definition of world class. $229/person includes train fare and lunch. Required Orientation: Water level determines the Class of the Upper Animas. Ride the train to our comfortable and well-equipped camp in the magnificent San Juan mountains, spend a cozy night under the stars, then ride the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Train the next day to Silverton to enjoy one of Colorado's most unique mining towns before heading back to Durango aboard the train to finish your trip.

About the Itinerary:

*Meet at Mountain Waters at 6:30 AM to load the train with camp gear and food
*Meet your qualified guide who will showcase the best of Colorado.
*Board the train at 7:45 for your ride to your camp in the middle of Colorado's largest wilderness.
*Optional Hike: Shuttle to Purgatory trail head with your guide and hike into camp (3 – 5 hours) in the largest wilderness in the state of Colorado. Your guide will pack a lunch for you.
*Unload the train on the way down from Silverton.

Ride the train to our comfortable and well-equipped camp in the magnificent San Juan mountains, spend a cozy night under the stars, then ride the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Train the next day to Silverton to enjoy one of Colorado's most unique mining towns before heading back to Durango aboard the train to finish your trip.
Your friendly guides will take care of everything so you can relax and enjoy the experience.Let you guides handle all the gear, set-up, delicious meals and snacks for an unforgettable all-inclusive wilderness experience!
About the Itinerary:
*Everything is included – 3 meals, sleeping bags, tents etc.
*Meet at Mountain Waters at 6:30 AM to load the train with camp gear and food
*Meet your qualified guide who will showcase the best of Colorado.
*Board the train at 7:45 for your ride to your camp in the middle of Colorado's largest wilderness.
*Optional Hike: Shuttle to Purgatory trail head with your guide and hike into camp (3 – 5 hours) in the largest wilderness in the state of Colorado. Your guide will pack a lunch for you.
*Unload the train on the way down from Silverton.

Raft 'n Rail package conforms to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad cancellation policy. Train ticket refunds/Cancellations are subject to a fee of $14.00 per adult ticket and $7.00 per child ticket if cancelled prior to 48 hours of your reserved date. There are no refunds issued on reservations cancelled less than 48 hours of your reserved date.
